Kumkum – Sacred Vermilion, Symbol of Auspiciousness
Kumkum (vermilion) is one of the most sacred substances in Hindu worship. The vibrant red powder represents Shakti (divine feminine energy), prosperity, and auspiciousness. Its application on the forehead activates the Ajna chakra and is an integral part of Hindu spiritual practice.
In worship, Kumkum is offered to deities – especially to Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Durga – and applied as prasad (sacred offering) to devotees. Every Hindu home and temple maintains a supply of kumkum for daily rituals.
